MACAW get first silverware of season!..

MACAW Motorsport had Paul Kaynes and Chris Woods out for the rounds at Pembrey, with the noticeable absentee being Rocket Rob who was still in the process of repairing damage to his car from Croft.

Qualifying Report:

After a hot day of testing on the Friday, Saturday was to bring another day of hot weather for qualifying and both races. In the heat it was Paul Kaynes who managed to top the two MACAW drivers gaining a brilliant 3rd place start on the grid for Race 1. Chris Woods was a mere 4 tenths behind and secured a 4th place start on the grid. The question was… After all of the issues the team had so far this year, would either driver be able to get some well deserved silverware for the MACAW Motorsport team…?

Race 1

Race 1 saw both Paul and Chris get off to storming starts, holding their positions against the field and both trying hard to try and get Mac who was running in front of PK in 2nd. However after the initial laps the field began to stretch out. Chris attempted to close in on Paul, but as they were too evenly matched on pace he could not close the gap. At the line it was Paul Kaynes who finished in a fantastic 3rd Place, gaining the honour of bringing home MACAW Motorsports first silverware of the season, with Chris Woods finishing a respectable 4th place, just a couple of seconds back from Paul.

Race 2

After the great results from race 1, the boys were hoping for a similar result in race 2. Both Paul and Chris again got good starts and for a time both got in front of Mac to be running in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Unfortunately Mac fought back and a fantastic battle ensued between Paul, Chris and Mac. This continued for several laps but unfortunately Mac got past both and back up into 2nd, dropping Paul to 3rd and Chris to 4th. As the race went on Paul and Chris began having a huge battle over the 3rd place spot. Unfortunately contact happened and both went off into the chicane allowing Charlie Cole through to take 3rd place and his first ever podium. Despite a valiant effort by both MACAW drivers they finished in 4th and 5th place, just outside of the podium places with minor repairs needed for both cars. It was a Battle Royale before the contact which saw some great racing from both drivers, but following suit from the likes of the F1 teams, we like a bit of controversy, it just shows how much both drivers wanted to get on the podium… Onwards and upwards.. 🙂

The next race meeting is at Cadwell Park on 28th July which should see the return of Rocket Rob who is hoping for some better luck…
